Etosha National Park is world-famous for its abundance of wildlife and premiere game viewing opportunities. The park is home to 114 species of mammals, including elephants, black rhinos, lions and other big cats and predators, giraffes, various antelopes and zebras, as well as hundreds of species of birds and reptiles. The vegetation ranges from dense bush to open plains with semi-arid.

Etosha Pan in the heart of the nature reserve is a vast shallow depression of 5000 km2 that can even be seen from space. The huge salt pan is dry for most of the year and lies shimmering in the heat, but after good rains it fills up with water and attracts scores of birds, especially flamingos from as far away as the Walvis Bay Lagoon on the Atlantic coast.

Staying within the park is the best way to see the wildlife at sunrise and sunset. If you enjoy camping but shy away from the effort of packing camping equipment, then this is the perfect solution for the independent and light-hearted traveler. Time to get in your car and explore Etosha yourself, or book a game drive/safari with ranger! Etosha Pan in the heart of the nature reserve is a vast shallow depression of 5000 km2 that can even be seen from space. The western reaches of Etosha are quite different from its south-eastern and eastern parts. Even the characteristic white dust of the pan gives way to reddish-brown soil. The hills of western Etosha are the realm of Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra. Where will you go?

HEADING EAST

Moving to the east of the park for a different perspective and more time to enjoy the wildlife on your doorstep.

The east side brings you closer to the famous Salt Pan, which actually gave Etosha its name (meaning “Great White Place”). This completely former lakebed is now a 120-kilometer-long stretch of white nothingness. Self-drive is definitely the best way to see Etosha. Spend the day visiting the waterholes & catching sights of the wildlife side-by-side, or spot cats hiding in the bushes.

NIGHT UNDER THE STARS 4*

This nights’ lodge is situated in the King Nehale Conservancy – an area characterised by vast and spectacular landscapes including the Andoni Plains and artesian springs. Enjoy the veranda with private splash pool, restaurant and bar. Here you also have the opportunity to combine the cultural vibrancy of so-called Owamboland with the natural wonders of the Park.
