Today you’ll cross the border with Namibia! Rising from the beautiful Drakensberg Mountains in Lesotho, forming part of the international border between South Africa and Namibia, the Orange River is the longest river in SA. The river snakes its way through one of Southern Africa’s harshest environments bringing life to an area of sheer rugged beauty. Aside from vineyards in the desert, the river also creates a mobile playground to explore the area.

STAY BY THE RIVER (ROOFTOP TENT)

Set in lush greenery and overlooking the Orange River, you’ll will enjoy a lovely camping experience in Namibia. The campsite is equipped with barbecue facilities, on-site restaurant, bar, pool and electricity points, as well as an eco-friendly laundry service and children’s play area. Activities include canoeing, fishing, birdwatching, rock climbing, horse riding, and excursions to nearby attractions.

CANOEING & HIKING A NATURAL WONDER

Before heading to Fish River Canyon, you start the day with an unforgettable canoe trip on the Orange River! Then onwards to The Fish River Canyon. This is the most impressive natural wonder in southern Namibia and the second largest canyon in the world. Its an awe-inspiring gorge that meanders through the fissured Koubis massif at a depth of up to 550 metres. Beautiful scenic hikes are offered in the adjacent private nature reserves Canyon Nature Park & Gondwana Canyon Park.

Explore the canyon on your first day, and on day 2 you can do an optional Gondwana Canyon morning hike. This 6km hike takes around 3 hours. You are accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will share his knowledge about the fascinating desert landscape, and fauna & flora of the area.

SANDY-GHOST-TOWN

Set in a unique geographical location, the harbour town of Lüderitz is almost like a small stronghold of civilisation sandwiched between the thundering Atlantic Ocean and the arid Namib Desert. Once the starting point of German colonisation in 1883, the historic buildings are remnants of that time. These days Lüderitz is famous for crayfish and oysters – and the nearby ghost town of Kolmanskop.

The first day is yours to explore the area, visit the flamingos and penguins and brave the elements at deserted beached. On day 2, you can visit the famous Ghost Town (optional), where the crumbling buildings of a small, once-luxurious town emerge from the drifting dunes – a reminder of the wealth of a time when diamonds could be picked by hand from the desert, and a remarkable photographic opportunity with few equals anywhere on earth.

TOWERING RED DUNES & HOT AIR BALLOONS

Located in Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is famous for its setting amidst the iconic red dunes of the Namib, with clear blue skies contrasting with the towering dunes. At up to 400 metres high, some of the ‘mountains of sand’ are among the highest in the world. It is home to a variety of desert wildlife including gemsbok, springbok, ostrich and various reptiles.

Over your 2 days, you can choose to Climb ‘Big Daddy’, one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes; explore neighbouring Deadvlei, a dazzling white clay pan dotted with ancient fossilised camel thorn trees; take a scenic flight across the Namib Sand Sea or a hot air balloon trip followed by a once-in-a-lifetime champagne breakfast amidst the majestic dunes.

The campsite is located under acacia trees on the bank of a dry riverbed. For the coming 2 days/nights, you’ll be offered beautiful views of the ‘fossilised’ dunes of the primeval Namib. This fully equipped campsite is ideally suited for nature lovers who want to experience Sossusvlei and at the same time love the silent starlit nights of the Namib Desert.

Take another drive through the desert to the coast towards Swakopmund – Namibia’s mecca. The desert, dunes & ocean lend themselves to a host of thrilling activities: sand boarding, sand skiing, quad biking, dune carting, beach angling and deep-sea fishing, and parachuting. Or take it easy strolling the art galleries and watching crafters in town. The mix of Namibian influences with picturesque buildings from the colonial era, palm-lined streets and seaside promenades make Swakopmund one of the most attractive places in the country.
