NATURAL WONDER

As you head out today towards Fish River Canyon, you’ll pass a monument to karakul sheep farmers and a museum housed in the old church. Another, more adventurous route will take you along Gochas and Koës, through hills and past memorials to fallen soldiers!

Make a stop at the Naute Kristall distillery to taste a range of desert schnapps. Heading through Gondwana Canyon Park, you’ll pass limestone relics and a collection of classic cars, before arriving at your lodge to rest, explore, and fill up on its famous Amarula cheesecake.

The next day is yours to explore the canyon, the second largest in the world and the most impressive natural wonder in southern Namibia. It is an awe-inspiring gorge that meanders through the fissured Koubis massif at a depth of up to 550 metres. Head towards one of the scenic vantage points, or stretch your legs with a walk along the canyon edge at Hikers’ Point to gain different perspectives of this awe-inspiring natural masterpiece.

After breakfast on day 2, head to the coastal town of Lüderitz. Time your trip to venture out on a catamaran to view the bays or join a short tour of the deserted old diamond town of Kolmanskop. On your way back, visit the Namib wild horses at the Garub viewpoint, and watch them gallop in to drink at the waterhole before you return home for a delicious dinner.

Take an interesting drive north-wards through the desert to the coast. After a stop for pie and coffee, the road takes you through the Gaub and Kuiseb canyons, between desert dunes and sparkling sea towards Swakopmund – Namibia’s adventure mecca. The desert, dunes & ocean lend themselves to a host of thrilling activities: sand boarding, sand skiing, quad biking, dune carting, beach angling and deep-sea fishing, and parachuting. Or take it easy strolling the art galleries and watching crafters in town.

The next day, after a delicious breakfast – complete with oysters and champagne – you can choose to explore town, take a serene dolphin trip or living desert tour. By evening, you’ll be savoring the sunset over the sea from the end of the wooden jetty that extends out into the crashing waves.

En-route, don’t forget to look out for the striking Herero women with their colourful stalls.

At the end of the day, don’t miss the walk up the hill for sundowners and a sensational view of the lodge and surrounding mopane savannah.

AN AFRICAN VILLAGE IN STYLE

Built in the wattle and daub style under Mopane trees and connected by a labyrinth of paths, this lodge feels like an African village, with walls adorned by copies of the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. There is a swimming pool and a viewing point for relishing sunsets.

SAFARI TIME!

Enjoy breakfast amidst the mopane trees before the gentle drive northwards towards Etosha National Park. Relax by the pool at camp, or visit the national park to spend time at the large Okaukuejo waterhole before returning to the lodge before sunset. The next day is time to enjoy a game drive. Etosha National is home to 114 species of mammals, including elephants, black rhinos, lions and other big cats, giraffes, antelopes and zebras – as well as hundreds of species of birds and reptiles. Make your way back to the lodge for cocktails and dinner, and to once again tap your toes to an African beat.
