WILD OF THE OKAVANGO
After your arrival at Maun Airport Botswana, you’ll pick up your 4×4 rental vehicle and depart Maun. Today’s drive takes you to the Khwai area of the Okavango Delta, along the north-eastern boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve. This is an unfenced boundary allowing wildlife to move freely between the woodlands in the wet season when water is plentiful and back to permanent rivers and lagoons in the dry season. The Khwai area offers the same wildlife experience as the reserve with the added advantage of being a private concession, which means the ability to do walking safaris and night drives.

For the coming 2 nights, you’ll stay at an intimate Safari Camp which overlooks the Khwai River. Designed in the style of the classic tented safari camps of days gone by, the camp aims to rekindle the atmosphere of a luxury mobile safari camp, successfully blending the rustic with the luxurious.

Today you’ll travel into the wild – twice! Traditionally, safari activities are often geared around dawn and dusk; the best time of day for game sightings and also the coolest. This means the heat of the day is your leisure time to relax and siesta back in camp. An early wake up might not feel like your idea of a holiday at the time… but trust us that these early morning activities are often the setting for your most thrilling wildlife sightings! With two guided safaris into the Moremi Game Reserve there is ample chance to see hippos, lions and rhinos.

EDGE OF THE OKAVANGO
After a hearty breakfast, you will depart the camp and drive back to Maun. Set on the banks of the beautiful Thamalakane River in northern Botswana, Maun is set in spectacular scenery. The starting point for most expeditions into the Okavango Delta, as a result Maun has developed into a bustling metropolis. Area attractions include a renowned riverboat that offers cruises up and down the Thamalakane River, a Mokoro boat-trip, and the forest groves of the Maun Game Reserve.

EXPERIENCE BOTSWANA’S HERITAGE
Today’s journey takes you to the tiny old Botswana village of Gweta, known as the gateway to the Makgadikgadi Pans.
Take a guided walk or quad bike ride through Gweta’s surrounds. Discover flint-head spears and other artifacts abandoned by early Stone Age inhabitants. Experience a barbeque under the star-studded African sky while sipping on traditional, organic sorghum beer. During the rainy season, the area teems with zebra and wildebeest, lion and cheetah.

The coming 2 nights you will stay at this family friendly camp which combines style with comfort while remaining true to its African inspiration. The Africantastic ‘shebeen’ style central mess features a tasty bar menu, and when it heats up, cool off in the biggest coolest pool in the Kalahari. In the area you will see lots of hughe Baobab Trees.

HEAD INTO THE SALT FLATS
Take a trip into the Makgadikgadi Pan, one of the largest salt flats in the world. The pan is all that remains of the formerly enormous Lake Makgadikgadi, which once covered an area larger than Switzerland, but dried up tens of thousands of years ago. Perhaps you’ll chance a meeting with the local’s – the semi-habituated meerkats.
Included is a Sundowner Baobab Bush Walk, and a day trip to Makgadikgadi Pans plus meeting the semi-habituated meerkats.
TIP – During dry season (July – October) you can upgrade to an overnight sleep out on the Makgadikgadi Pans with quad bike activity. Ask is for more details.

FRANCISTOWN
Situated near the border of Zimbabwe is Francistown, known as the gateway to Maun, and Kasane in the north. Dubbed the ‘Capital of the North’, Francistown was originally a gold rush and mining town. Today it has developed into a thriving urban centre. Visitors can enjoy several attractions including: the Supa Ngwao Museum, exhibiting traditional wood carvings and local cultural displays; the Domboshaba Ruins, a series of centuries-old stone walls and enclosures; and Tachila Nature Reserve, inhabited by abundant wildlife such as hyena, warthog, leopard, kudu and much more.

CONSERVATION & EDUCATION
The Sanctuary is a community-based wildlife project, providing an important habitat for black and white rhino as well as over 30 other animal species. Visitors can look forward to a variety of wonderful conservation-based activities including a game viewing safari.
